Review Maritime Hackathon 2016

24 hours, one mission: New ideas and approaches for the maritime industry to develop. With a great view over the port of Hamburg the 20 participants hacked like crazy one day and one night. After the breakfast the countdown to work started exactly 11:46 on Saturday morning.

The 5 teams developed creative ideas from Live AIS data, weather data and social media channels. Already on Saturday night were the first results visible. After a long night, the teams have reinforced with a rich breakfast on Sunday morning before the bell on 11:46 am sounded for the final. In a subsequent pitch the participants presented their findings to in expert jury. Jury and participants were equally enthusiastic about the projects of all teams. At the end three winners had to be chosen.

The winning projects were:

“Hello_ship” in the category “Best hardware application”
(Martin ocher and Benjamin Brunel)

“Disaster alert” in the category “Best mobile application”
(Jonas Weissensel, Akio Hansen and Luca Evgheni)

“Vesseltrip” in the category “Intel code for GOOD”
(Kai Schroeer, Silas Mahler, Christoph Weinzierl and John Teelote)

A big thanks to all the participants, who introduced with much good humor and creative ideas on this event.

We also thank our sponsors for their support: Corporate Planning AG, Vesseltracker, Hanseaticsoft, Maritime Data Systems and Intel code for GOOD.
